Is Tiger Playing The PGA Championship In 2022?
Golf fans have plenty to look forward to at the 2022 PGA Championship. Betting favorites Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are in exceptional form. Jordan Spieth looks like he is on the verge of being a major contender again. Young guns like Collin Morikawa, Victor Hovland and Cameron Smith are looking to either add to their major collection or bag their first. Perennial challengers like Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas are lurking in the wings, eager to once again take center stage.
But no matter what else is happening in the world of golf, one man transcends it all.
Tiger Returns For 2022 PGA Championship
Tiger Woods will make his second appearance of the golf season at this year’s PGA Championship in Southern Hills, Oklahoma. He is due to tee off on Thursday morning at 9:11 am (ET) in an all-star group that also includes McIlroy and Spieth. On Friday the trio will tee off at 2:36 pm (ET) and no doubt will draw the biggest crowd of the day by far.

Tiger made an unexpected comeback in April at the Masters. That welcome appearance followed a long spell on the sidelines after his near-death car accident. It was minor miracle to see him make the cut. It was subsequently no surprise to see him fade at the weekend as the exertions of the first two days caught up with him. And many did not think he would be ready to go again at the year’s next major. But several weeks later now he believes his legs are stronger. Could he pull off another unbelievable comeback win like at Augusta in 2019?
In truth, he is probably at least a few more months away from being able to contend at this level. In 2019, he had already been competitive in the leadup to the Masters. He had won the previous year’s season-ending showcase event, the Tour Championship. This time around he has had very limited reps over a two year period. Realistically, making the cut and possibly even a Top 20 finish would be a great result.
Tiger Woods Odds For 2022 PGA Championship
Having said that, Tiger does have positive memories of Southern Hills. He won the fourth of his four PGA Championships there in 2007. That victory was in addition to previous PGA titles he had won in 1999, 2000 and 2006. Before the start of the tournament, he is available at around +6500 in the betting. You can shop around the various online sportsbooks to potentially find a better price.
One very notable absentee from the field is defending champion Phil Mickelson. The six-time major winner has sidelined himself after an ongoing controversy involving a proposed rival golf tour. Mickelson had made history in 2021 by becoming the oldest major champion in golf history at 50 years and 11 months of age.
