About online casino sites in West Virginia

West Virginia is one of only 6 US states (for now!) that allow online casino sites to operate – the others being Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

WV was the fourth state to legalize playing at casino sites online, officially launching in July of 2020. DraftKings Casino was the first casino to go live, closely followed by Bet Rivers and MGM

Who can take part?

In order to play at the popular online casinos in West Virginia, you need to be at least 21 years of age, and located within the state borders. All the sites on our legal online casino list make use of geolocation technology – either through your smartphone’s GPS chip, or a location plugin installed on your computer.

This is because many of West Virginia’s neighboring states don’t yet allow online casino gambling, so the providers are obligated by law to make sure people located outside the state can’t bet… at least yet!

It’s important to note you don’t have to be a West Virginian citizen to play, though, you just need to be within state lines when you play at the casino online.

Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about online casino sites in West Virginia:

While there are fewer options than for depositing, withdrawing from West Virginia online casinos is typically a smooth experience. The easiest way is to use the same option you used to deposit. If that option is not available (e.g. you usually cannot withdraw back to credit cards) you will be able to choose from the following: eChecks Paper Checks Online Bank Transfer E-Wallets: Paypal, Skrill, Neteller Prepaid Card Cash at Cage Withdrawal

West Virginia online casinos offer their users a wide choice of options for depositing funds into their accounts. In most cases you can choose from: Credit/Debit Cards Online Bank Transfer E-Wallets: PayPal, Skrill, Neteller Prepaid Cards Play+ Cards ACH/eChecks PayNearMe Cash at Cage
Credit/Debit Cards:
Most online casinos accept credit and debit cards for deposits. In some cases, options may be restricted to Visa and Mastercard. Additionally, some banks may block these transactions as their archaic rules don’t allow deposits with gambling companies. As legal gambling becomes more widespread and more states come online this issue will become less common.
Electronic Wallets:
Availability is dependent on the individual app/site but established eWallets such as PayPal or Skrill are an option for some online casinos. You can only withdraw using eWallets if you deposited with the same method first. A benefit of this method is that deposits and withdrawals usually process immediately.
Online Banking:
Casino players can often deposit by sending money directly from their bank accounts. If this method is available on your casino website or app it is usually a straightforward process.
Prepaid Cards:
Prepaid cards are like gift cards that players can use similarly to credit/debit cards to deposit any amount up to the value of the card. You can also withdraw to the prepaid card.
Some sportsbooks offer this deposit-only method. You simply select it as your deposit option with the casino, then decide on the amount you would like to deposit and the casino sends you a unique barcode. You can then go to your nearest 7-Eleven/CVS/Family Dollar where the cashier will scan the barcode and you pay them the amount of the deposit. Typically, your deposit will process within 15 minutes and is then available to use in the casino app/website.
You can deposit and withdraw using electronic check (eCheck) and you can withdraw by paper check. Typically, you cannot deposit directly to a casino using a regular paper check. With eChecks, after a player requests their bank to transfer money from their bank account into a casino account, their request is first passed through a clearing house before the funds are transferred.
Cash at the Cage:
In some cases, players can deposit or withdraw money at the cage of the land-based casino with which their online provider is affiliated.

There are five WV casinos that can each issue three online casino licenses. Here are the partnerships that have been established:
The Casino Club at the Greenbrier: BetMGM Casino, FanDuel Casino
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races: DraftKings Casino
Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort: BetRivers Casino, William Hill Casino
Mardi Gras Casino and Resort: None to date
Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack: None to date

Sign Up Process:
The new account registration process is straightforward. Visit the website of your chosen casino and follow the steps for new players. Alternatively, you can download the app for your mobile device from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. For some online casinos, you will need to select the specific West Virginia version of the app. Others just have one that covers all legal states.
You do not need to be a West Virginia resident to register a new account
The only requirement is that you must be 21 years or older and have a valid social security number (for age verification). Even non-WV residents can play any time they are physically within the borders of West Virginia.
