The August boxing calendar contains a number of quality fights for fans and bettors to enjoy. The schedule includes five title bouts and two title eliminators. Of note is the fight between Teofimo Lopez (WBA, WBO, IBF Lightweight titleholder) vs. George Kambosos Jr has been rescheduled to August 14 due to COVID19. Not to mention any time the legendary Manny Pacquiao steps in the ring the boxing world takes note.

August 3 (Tuesday)

Michael Hunter vs. Mike Wilson

The eliminator series was established to give all relevant boxers in each weight class an opportunity to earn the right to a title bout. In this bout, Hunter enters with a record of 19-1-1, 3 KOs to face off against a determined 38-year-old Wilson at 21-1, 10 KOs. For heavyweights, neither of these two boxers has yet at this last stage of their careers to show the knockout power typically found in this weight class.

August 7 (Saturday)

Kid Galahad (-275) vs. Jazza Dickens (+225)

With the vacant IBF featherweight title on the line, Abdul-Bari “Barry” Awad, better known in boxing circles as “Kid Galahad” (27–1, 16 KOs, will rematch against the British boxer Jazza Dickens (30–3, 11 KOs). In their prior bout (Sept. 2013), Galahad won by a TKO in the 10th round. Look for a good scrappy fight with Galahad being just a little quicker and stronger.

August 14 (Saturday)

Teofimo Lopez (-900) vs. George Kambosos Jr. (+500)

As both of these fighters enter the ring undefeated with Lopez going 16-0 and Kambosos going 19-0, it will be Lopez who is putting up his WBA, WBO, IBF Lightweight titles. Lopez is strongly favored in this bout based on his punching power and the higher level of competition he has faced in his boxing career.

Joshua Franco vs. Andrew Moloney

Franco (17-1-2, 8 KOs) will be putting his WBA ‘Regular’ Junior Bantamweight title on the line here against Moloney (21-1, 14 knockouts). This will be a rematch of a fight that was ruled no contest in November 2020 after a questionable headbutt was ruled to have caused swelling under Franco’s right eye. At the time of the stoppage, Moloney looked to be dominating this fight over an unprepared Franco. In a Jun 2020 bout, Franco upset the then WBA (Regular) super-flyweight titleholder, Moloney, with a unanimous decision.

Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. John Riel Casimero

With Rigondeaix’s WBA Bantamweight title on the line, Casimero will enter the ring against the 40-year-old Rigondeaux (21-1-1, 13 knockouts) who is also a two-time Olympics Gold Medal winner (2000, 2004). Casimero out of the Philippines has a strong record (30-4, 21 knockouts).

August 21 (Saturday)

Spence (-200) vs. Pacquiao (+180)

With Spence’s WBC, IBF Welterweight titles on the line, it’s time to see if the legendary Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) can turn back the clock one more time. Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) enters the fight as arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, a title once held by Pacquiao. The Filipino Senator Pacquiao is stepping into the ring against a boxer that might well be the second-best boxer he has ever faced in reference to Floyd Mayweather Jr. This will be a war.

August 28 (Saturday)

David Benavidez vs. Jose Uzcategui

The month of August ends with a WBC Super Middleweight title eliminator between Benavidez and Uzcategui. At the age of 24, Benavidez already has 24 fights under his belt with a record of 24-0, 21 KOs. He is noted for his tremendous punching power. Uzcategui is no slouch in the power department with 26 KOs in 35 fights that includes 31 wins.
