In April of 2021, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed House Bill 2772 (HB 2772). With the signing of the bill, he officially legalized sports gambling for the residents of his state. That’s not all. He also effectively legalized the playing of daily fantasy sports (DFS).

All of this is great news for some of the state population that has spent the better part of their lives looking for sports betting alternatives. For some residents, that meant having to travel to nearby Nevada to place wagers. Another portion of the population simply made their bets with offshore sportsbooks or illegal bookmakers. When a sports bettor wants to place a bet, they will find a way.

All of that is mute now as legal sports betting will very soon be available in Arizona. All that’s left to do is get licensees and bookmakers in place to start taking bets. One of the major players in the Arizona sports betting community will be DraftKings.

About DraftKings

DraftKings was founded in 2012 under the guidance of Jason Robins, Matthew Kalish, and Paul Liberman, Their mission was simple. They wanted to make DFS a household form of entertainment for sports bettors who weren’t allowed to legally bet on sports. They succeeded in their mission.

Over the years, DraftKings created a DFS platform that features most of America’s favorite sports. That included daily, weekly, and monthly contests that featured players from the NBA, MLB, NFL, and the NHL. Eventually, the DFS provider branched off to include the PGA, NASCAR, and European soccer league.

Slowly but surely, DraftKings became the largest DFS provider in the world. When the U.S. Supreme Court announced the lifting of the sports betting ban in the U.S., management at DraftKings saw an opportunity. With a tremendous base of DFS customers in tow, DraftKings made the decision to include sports betting as part of its gambling platform.

That decision has propelled the company to become one of the largest online gambling providers in the U.S.

Is DraftKings Legal In Arizona?

When gov. Ducey signed HB 2772 into law, it didn’t take DraftKings long to jump into action. Within weeks of the big announcement about sports betting in Arizona, DraftKings was under contract with the TPC Sawgrass Golf Complex. Under the terms of the contract, DraftKings will be providing both retail and online sports betting access to Arizona sports bettors.

As a point of clarification, DraftKings will be developing at least one retail sportsbook adjacent to the TPC Sawgrass Complex. They will not be permitted to place a retail sportsbook inside the golf complex.

In addition to the retail sportsbook location(s), DraftKings will also be permitted to provide access to its online sports betting platform. Bettors will be able to access this platform with their PCs or mobile devices. The DraftKings mobile app is compatible with both the Android and iOS operating systems.

To answer the titled question: Yes, DraftKings will be legal in Arizona with the kickoff of sports gambling coming soon.

When Will DraftKings Launch in Arizona?

Arizona residents living near the TPC Sawgrass Complex won’t have to wait long to place their first legal sports bets with DraftKings. The Arizona sports betting community is working frantically to collectively launch by the start of the NFL season this year. That target date is September 9, 2021.

DraftKings is already functioning as a legal bookmaker in at least 15 states in the U.S. They will be ready to go in Arizona when the sports betting flag drops. This is a retail and online bookmaker that warrants consideration by Arizona sports bettors.
